Certified Nursing Assistant

Nursing assistants, sometimes called nursing aides, help provide basic care for patients in hospitals and residents of long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes. Orderlies transport patients and clean treatment areas.

Introduction:

Nursing assistants provide basic care and help with activities of daily living. Some nursing assistants also may dispense medication, depending on their training level and the state in which they work. In nursing homes and residential care facilities, assistants are often the principal caregivers. They have more contact with residents than other members of the staff. Because some residents stay in a nursing home for months or years, assistants may develop close relationships with their residents. The following intended outcomes 12-23 should be taught together as a module to achieve the occupational completion point of Articulated Nursing Assistant.  The average achieving student should be able to complete the module in 75 clock hours.  The standard length for the Nursing Assistant (Articulated) program including the core is 165 hours but cannot be less than 120 hours.

Salary:

The average wage for this career in Florida is $12.90 hourly or $26,840 annually.

Completion Requirements:

The entire program is 165 hours. Certain Adult Education Centers do not offer all components of the program.  Full completion of the program may be completed at a Technical College. Students can earn a certificate at the completion of the following Occupational Completion Points (OCPs):
